Why Dookudu is important for Tollywood?

For more than one reason, a lot seems to ride on Mahesh’s Dookudu. For one thing the actor himself has not delivered a hit proportionate to his ethereal looks and almost seemingly endless talent. But there is more. Tollywood off late is surrendering a lot more ground than it should to Kollywood.

Before there was the indisputable Kamalahasan who made use of K. Viswanath and Balachander to endear himself to Telugu audiences. And then came Rajinikanth with his high-spending blockbusters. But today we have the likes of Vikram, Ajith and Karthi claiming the mindshare of Telugu audiences.

According to an estimate, more number of Tamil dubbed film were release than direct Telugu films In 2011. In the recent few months, films like Rangam and Kanchana have turned out to be huge hits. With most of our big budget films failing to live up to the expectations this year, it is time our heroes hold their own in terms of delivering commercially viable good cinema. And there are lot of expectations on Mahesh Babu’s Dookudu since it is likely to be the only film with a budget of more than 35 crores in the latter half of 2011. If only his directors do justice to his persona, Dookudu can have a marathon run at the box office.
